5 Life Lessons from the Red Carpet

About 3 weeks ago I got a letter in the mail from the uber-awesome, Suzanne Evans for her upcoming “Be the Change” Conference:

Dear Stephanie, you’re officially invited to our special Red Carpet event this Friday evening. Red Carpet attire is encouraged. We look forward to seeing you then!”

. . . WHAT?

. . . Red Carpet attire?

. . . I don’t own RED CARPET attire!!!

I pillaged through my closets. I dug through my storage unit. Nothing. Zippo. Nada.

So with a huff-puffing sigh I put this challenge on my mental back-burner, awaiting inspiration for what I’d wear (and how the heck I’d find time to search the city for the perfect Red Carpet dress.)

For the next several days I waited . . .

And waited . . .

And waited for inspiration to strike.

But nothing came.

Then, just 4 days before leaving for the event, I woke up with an idea. A light-bulb moment.

I’ve GOT it!!!”

Then everything started to fall into place effortlessly, as if it were being directed by divine choreography. I raced to the stores, crammed the supplies into my car, and zipped home to begin creating my masterpiece.

By the next evening my home was covered floor-to-ceiling with red fuzz, fabric and frizz. And behold: from the midst of the mess arose a monstrous, massive, sequin-trimmed dress made out of (drum roll . . . ) . . . BRIGHT RED CARPETING.

I was giggling. Giddy. Overjoyed.

Who cares if I can’t walk in it. Or sit down in it. Or fit it into a suitcase. . . . (Or end up as the laughing stock?) . . . Details, details!

On the night of the big event, I strolled in like a big giant red cartoon character come to life – and the resonse was spectacular! The whole night was a bundle of silly fun wrapped up in a big, bright-red package.

It was freeing. Funny. And the most fascinating way to connect with others.

But what I realized most is that this “Red Carpet” dress represented so much more than just a goofy idea or crazy outfit. It represented my own “Secret Sauce” to life itself  (and the lives of many other unstoppable women I know.)

So here are 5 unstoppable steps to living YOUR life’s mission (while having more fun than you ever dreamed possible):

1. THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX.

If you do what everyone else does, you get what everyone else gets. (Just look around – that ain’t much.) Innovation and inspiration doesn’t come in a plain brown package – so boldly go where no man (or woman) has gone before!

2. BE PATIENT. THE ANSWERS ARE ON THEIR WAY.

The solution to every challenge is available to you. But timing is crucial. Be patient, trust that the answer is on it’s way, and make sure to be ready when the divine download arrives.

3. WHEN AN IDEA COMES, GET OFF YOUR BUTT.

When you’re struck with a divine download, action is key – because inspiration fizzles and fades away without a little effort and elbow-grease. When a passion, pull, or desire strikes, get your butt in motion – pronto. If you don’t, someone else will.

4. NEVER EVER WORRY ABOUT WHAT OTHERS THINK.

Great ideas aren’t born from mediocrity. Worry about what others think, and your dreams disappear before they even begin. It’s time to be a leader (not a follower). Shine your bright light into the dark. Become a walkin-talkin-livin’ proof of what’s truly possible.

5. STOP TAKING EVERYTHING SO DAMN SERIOUSLY.

Where did we get the idea that things had to be so gosh-darn somber? Try looking at things from a different perspective. Get a chuckle from life’s absurdity. Poke fun at yourself. Have a belly laugh now and then. Humor is always irresistible.

Live your life by these 5 principles and you’ll join the ranks of the Unstoppables – those small few that make up far less than 1% of the Earth’s population.

It’s time to come out of your Unstoppable closet. It’s time to strut your stuff and pave the way. Done are the days of “fitting in”. In are the days of playing BIG, being bold – and doing whatever it takes to live out your mission in the world.

Stop shrinking  – and start shining!

Stop fearing – and start trail-blazing!

Stop dumbing it down  – and start stepping it up!

Be SEEN.  Be HEARD.  Be UNSTOPPABLE.

Sure, it’s a road less traveled. But as you know, quality far outweighs quantity. (And you’ll always have 1 seriously-wacky red-head to keep you company.)

Life’s short. Play your unique hand of cards well. And whatever you do, laugh as much as you can along the way.
