Feng Shui Q&A: 3 Tips for Stepping into Your Power

iStock_000000061457_L1_1Kim recently wrote to me saying, “I’m struggling to design a space around me to help me succeed in my life and open up myself to my life’s purpose. Help!”

Thanks Kim for the great question. I get hundreds of questions like this a month, so you’re in good company!

Without seeing your space, here are 3 great foundational tips that I hope will help.

1. Remove the blocks

So often when we’re wanting to bring in something new or open to life’s abundance, first we have to start by removing those things that are getting in your way.

Do you have blocked walkways? Are there things hidden behind your doors? Are your closets stuffed full? Is your junk drawer in total disarray? Are there things lying about that are broken, unused or unfinished? If so, see if you can open things up, organize and remove the excess that is symbolically blocking insights and opportunities from coming in.

Also take a look at objects that reflect ideas that may be weighing down your life. Examine all the items in your home, and ask yourself what beliefs they hold in place. If your discoveries are not in alignment with your bigger dreams, then inquire as to why you are holding onto them. If you can, remove them from the house. And if not, just be honest with yourself that you’re choosing to hold onto things that are wrecking your life (that honest self-talk tends to be the kick in the butt we need, and quite likely you’ll be getting rid of it in the next few days!).

2. “Jolt” for Joy!

Sometimes when you’re stuck in a rut, it’s nice to give your space a gentle (or not-so-gentle) jolt. The easiest and quickest way to do this is simply by shaking things up. Here’s how…

Go grab several of your home or office’s decor. Grab up photos, sculptures, memorabilia, posters, paintings, vases, candles and any other decor that’s currently sitting around and put them in the middle of one room.

Once you’ve gathered at least 20+ objects, start placing those objects back into a NEW spot. That’s right – don’t put anything back where it was before. This will help super-charge more life into each object, bringing fresh and renewed awareness to each one, helping you feel that sweet “jolt” of energy at every turn through your home – and you didn’t spend a dime!

3. Do What Oprah Does.

OK, well maybe not Oprah necessarily… but… ponder this: Select someone you look up to – someone who captures or who’s achieved a level of success or fulfillment in some area of their life that you admire and look up to. Then, take 5 minutes to imagine that you ARE them.

From this perspective, say to yourself, “What would _____________ do? How would THEY decorate their bedroom, office, kitchen or front yard?” Getting outside of your current circumstances, and looking at your life from a more neutral, more empowered, or God’s-Eye perspective can do wonders for removing your feng shui blinders and start seeing those next needed steps for your space.

So, pick just one of the suggestions above that speaks to you most, and get to work today. And then post about your process and results in the comments box below. Action is the missing step for most people – so take any step, even a small one, and inspire others by posting below. I can’t wait to hear what transpires!
